Murtha

Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district became the next in line with the opportunity to make a difference today with the untimely passing of Jack Murtha. Murtha, who is probably best known for his role in the Abscam investigation also has a small, local airport in his district that carries his name, as well it should with the $200 million in federal subsidies it has received.

Murtha only spent 36 years in the House so compared to some he was a short timer, but during his time he mastered the art of the earmark and brought more pork to his district than many others could ever dream of. That kind of BS will be hard to match so hopefully the people of Pennsylvania’s 12th district will choose liberty over pork this time. The time sure is right with all the Tea Party action and political awareness out there, not to mention the demise of the “lyin’ of the senate”.

What with the defection of Arlen Specter and Murtha being named one of the twenty most corrupt members of congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington here’s hoping that the people of Pennsylvania are more careful in their choice this time. I just hope we see another Scot Brown type of victory.

I have what I call the misery imposition index(MII), basically an index that I apply to a politician that reflects the amount of misery they have imposed on the people. Murtha’s MII was topped only by a few and at the risk of sounding like a calloused liberal death panel member judging the life or death of a senior citizen I think that Murtha’s MII had far outweighed his worthiness to society. I only heard him speak once and that was to railroad a vote through to the constant protest of the minority party members present. This is the way I will remember him.
