Amendment VIII. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

That’s all there is to the Eighth Amendment. I think this is fairly straight forward. Only a few questions spring up. Perhaps some of you out there know the answers. What constitutes “excessive bail”? How much is excessive for a fine?

That was so short I would like to continue on with the Ninth Amendment now.

Amendment IX. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Now there’s a can of worms. What “others” are we talking about here. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? As you can see the Amendments are getting messy. Lots of things to ponder. I guess the Supreme Court decides these things. Kagan is looking a little more scary now isn’t she? I really don’t know all the answers here and I don’t want to get into the Tenth Amendment because it is quite important right now and I have a lot to say there.
