Health Care And Wage Freeze

May 6, 2010

Everybody knows, or maybe they don’t, that the Progressive in Chief  during World War II imposed wage freezes resulting in the companies offering health care insurance to employees in lieu of raises so that they would stay. They also offered other benefits such as retirement plans and paid vacations, all the things that you have come to expect from a “good employer”. This, my friends, was the beginning of the mess you have now.

As health care got farther away from the customers wallet a couple of things happened and to place them in the exact order they came is like placing the chicken or the egg. One is that the insurance companies began to deny claims. The other is that the doctors began to charge more. Apparently doctors and insurance companies are like water and oil, they just don’t mix well. To this day, if you pay cash for your health care you get a serious discount off what the insurance companies are charged.

Now I know there are some of you older folks out there saying, “Well yeah. I knew that.” So I am saying this for the benefit of the younger readers and the older ones that may have forgotten. The simple solution is to go back to the old way of doing things. Get paid a good wage with NO benefits and have a savings account, and pay cash for your health care. Now I know a lot of you are thinking how that will not work if you have a heart attack or a broken leg but let me tell you this, you’d be surprised just how cheap insurance is for this type of thing. When you don’t expect your insurance to pay for your toothpaste and you just have it for real emergencies, it gets real cheap.

With the brand new Obamacare in place a lot of companies are going retro and thinking seriously about discontinuing the health care benefits and just paying the fine. It’s going to be a whole lot cheaper for them as they won’t need the extensive human relations department anymore. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention this, Chairman Zero is coming for your retirement next. Just some food for thought. Until next time, screw environmentalists.
